In November, 2015, K-water established and commenced with National Drought Information-Analysis Center operations. As well, the government decided to establish a national drought alert and warning system and a drought information analysis center in the same year to support it.

The world is experiencing an increase in the frequency of droughts due to climate change. The International Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change(IPCC) predicts that the rate of increase will increase proportionately with continuously rising temperature. The World Economic Forum(2016) ranked the climate change crisis third. Currently, Korea is also experiencing the effects of climate change such as drought almost every year since the late 2000s.

The government is working to reduce the need to rely on drought monitoring systems operating in developed countries such as the United States, and implement preemptive measures rather than post-measures through the introduction of drought cases and alarms. The main purpose of the center is to collect, analyze and disseminate drought information. It collects and analyzes scattered water information nationwide, predicts the current level of drought by region, and predicts the future situation and promptly provides the information to the people, government, and local government.

In addition, by enhancing the durability and predictive analysis capabilities of advanced simulation models, statistical techniques, and ICT technology, it is possible to increase the reliability of drought cases and alarms, and to utilize drought information continuously and provide support.

As the proverb says, 'Prevention is better than medicine', our center will be able to minimize potential damages and inconveniences to people by predicting future trends through preemptive observation and analysis. We will do our best for you.
